About Us
The Coast String Fiddlers Association (CSFA) is a registered non-profit society in British Columbia.
The purposes of the Society are:
- to promote the learning, understanding and appreciation of traditional fiddle music;
- to give group instruction on the fiddle with particular emphasis on learning by ear;
- to raise funds in support of the activities and development of the Coast String Fiddlers Association.
The CSFA is the umbrella association for two youth fiddle groups:
- The Coast String Fiddlers
- Bad to the Bow
The Coast String Fiddlers performance group was founded in 1993 by Michelle Bruce. In 2000 the Coast String Fiddlers Association was registered as an official non-profit society in British Columbia. In 2007 Bad to the Bow emerged as a separate performing group from the Coast String Fiddlers under the musical direction of Chelsea Sleep.
CSFA Membership: All group musicians are required to become members of the CSFA. Youth performers pay a one-time membership fee ($10) which is valid until they turn 19. At least one legal guardian per minor participant must hold a CSFA annual adult membership which provides voting privileges ($10 annually); more memberships are welcome!
