Holly Beckmyer is co-instructor of the Coast String Fiddlers.

She is a singer, fiddler, and piano player with a strong background in
classical and folk music. Raised in Roberts Creek, Holly was a member of the
Coast String Fiddlers since the age of eight, and was also a member of the
original Twisted String, led by Oliver Schroer. After touring with the CSF to
Scotland, Belgium, and Nunavut, and playing with the Aberdeen International
Youth Festival’s Ceol Mor, Holly studied classical voice and theatre at
Vancouver Community College, The Canadian College of Performing Arts, and
Vancouver Academy of Music, busking with her fiddle on the side.
Since graduating, Holly has been working on her own folk projects, song- and
tune-writing, and is currently working on her first EP. Her style is rooted in
Scottish Celtic tradition but incorporates Appalachian and West Coast Canadian
notes as well. She is also honing a repertoire of contemporary classical songs
and arias, as well as building up a resume of operatic roles.

Holly currently teaches in North Vancouver’s Creative Music Centre as well as at
Staccato Music in Burnaby. Her teaching philosophy is centred in encouragement,
fun, and exploring a wide range of styles, as well as a grounding of healthy
technique. She is comfortable teaching by ear or by book, and she loves to
accompany her students on piano to give them a well-rounded understanding of the
music they learn. Holly is available to teach fiddle and voice to all ages and
all levels, as well as beginner piano.
