James Law is a multi-instrumentalist who grew up on the Sunshine Coast. He started playing the fiddle at the age of 3 and was one of the original members of the Coast String Fiddlers. He won first place in the Junior North West Regional Scottish Fiddle Competition and 2nd place in the Junior U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship in 2003. Growing up he took private lessons from Michelle Bruce, Blaine Dunaway, Jim McGillveray, and attended a variety of fiddle camps and workshops.  James was part of the Coast String Fiddlers until he graduated high school.  He then went on to study jazz drumming at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton and then Humber College in Toronto. James received a diploma in Recording Arts and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in drumming and graduated both programs with honors. Since graduating from university he has taught at numerous fiddle camps and performed all across Canada, the USA, and the UK. For the past 7 years, he has been busy touring with bands and working in the Toronto music scene. Some of the notable acts that James has performed with are NUA, The Marwills, The Fitzgerald’s, Nate Douglas, The Great Canadian Fiddle Show, Emily Flack, Flatrock, and The High Drive. Aside from performing and teaching, James is also a professional sound technician for live concerts and events working with Westbury National, Bespoke AV, The Next Generation Leahy, and The Fitzgeralds.
